Bucking Horse Sale lodging, 20 minutes from Miles City
The Miles City Bucking Horse Sale has drawn crowds to eastern Montana every May since 1951: bronc riding, the sale itself, a Main Street parade and a town that fills right up.
Terry is an easy 20-minute drive east on I-94, so you can spend the day at the fairgrounds and come back to a quiet room, free parking and a porch.

Just outside town
The Terry Badlands
Eroded buttes, sandstone and wide sky, close enough to reach in the morning and be back for supper. It’s country for photographs, walks and long drives. Ask at the desk for the best way out there, and bring water; it’s open country.
Local history
The Prairie County Museum and the Evelyn Cameron Gallery
Terry’s small museums tell the story of the town the Kempton grew up with. The Evelyn Cameron Gallery shows the work of the photographer who spent decades recording ranch life around Terry around the turn of the last century, the same years the Kempton opened. Check opening times before you go; small-town museums often keep seasonal hours.

Outdoors
The Yellowstone River and the Badlands to Badlands trail
The Yellowstone runs right past Terry, and the Badlands to Badlands trail system, which links the North Dakota and Montana badlands, has a trailhead in town. Good news if you’ve brought boots, a bike or a fishing rod.

Right off I-94 in eastern Montana
- From Miles City: about 20 minutes east on I-94.
